Sri Lankan technology provider OKLO nationally felicitated for breakthrough digital solution that modernized historic tea auctions

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka, January 2022: OKLO Private Limited, a leading Sri Lankan technology partner, has been nationally felicitated for its breakthrough digital solution that modernized the country’s traditional tea auction series that had been conducted physically for over four decades.

The hi-tech provider OKLO was felicitated at a glittering event on December 3rd at Colombo’s Shangri-la Hotel by the foremost entity that guides the destiny of the country’s Tea Industry, the Colombo Tea Traders’ Association (CTTA).  The occasion was graced by (Hon.) Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, the Minister of Plantations, (Hon.) Kanaka Herath, the State Minister of Company Estate Reforms, Tea and Rubber Estates Related Crops Cultivation and Factories Modernization and Tea and Rubber Export Promotion, Chairman of the Tea Board Mr. Jayampathy Molligoda, Chairman of the CTTA Mr. Jayantha Karunaratne joined by many other prominent personalities of the industry such as well-known buyers, brokers and producers.

To be in par with the rapid technological advancement in global auctions and trading processes, the Sri Lankan tea industry too adopted a policy decision in 2021 to modernize itself via digitization. A technology provider in par with global standards, was to be procured in a transparent process. The selection process to secure the best technology provider for this nationally significant project commenced in June 2020. After a rigorous vetting and procurement process, OKLO was selected. In September 2021, CTTA officially went live with the Advanced integrated Digital Auction Tea Platform developed by OKLO.

Thilanka explains: “OKLO’s solution automated all transaction processes in the value chain that connects to the auction system, from the time the produce leaves the factory to final settlement of the transaction’s payment thus not only digitalizing the process, but making this process end-to-end.”
